Just when Xbox enthusiasts were holding their breath for Baldur’s Gate 3, a treat seems to be in store.
These rumors caught fire when several Twitter and Reddit users claimed to have received notifications from the Xbox Game Pass app, stating that Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2 had been added to the service. This isn’t officially confirmed by the developers, BioWare (Overhaul Games for the enhanced editions), or Xbox, but the numerous claims being made online suggest that it’s true.
RPG enthusiasts might view this move as a balm, especially in the context of the much-anticipated but elusive release of the threequel, Baldur’s Gate 3, on Xbox consoles. This move could provide an ideal consolation prize for Xbox players while the wait for the third installment continues, they could take a nostalgic dive back into the vaults of the D&D RPG’s storied past.

Larian Studios, the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3, have been encountering hurdles in porting the game on the Xbox Series S and X, especially the former.
At the moment, we’re only days away from the launch of Baldur’s Gate 3 on August 3 – Laurian Studios recently confirmed that it won’t have a pre-load and that Early Access users should delete the game and related in-game files – on the PC and September 6 on the PlayStation 5.
With that said, this recent development has been met with intrigue and anticipation. Particularly considering the legacy of the Baldur’s Gate franchise. Originating in 1998, the franchise is a cherished fixture in the Forgotten Realms Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting, designed by Ed Greenwood in 1967. The popularity of this setting has led to its incorporation in other games such as Neverwinter Nights.
Baldur’s Gate, developed by RPG veterans Bioware, and its sequel have earned their reputation as two of the best RPGs of all time. They come equipped with an immersive landscape filled with wild beasts, supernatural foes, and desolate landscapes, making them ripe for mythical adventures.
Further fanning the flames of the rumors is the fact that both these games have been “let loose” on the UK version of the Xbox mobile app. However, the games aren’t yet available on the US version of the Game Pass website, leading to speculation that the rollout might extend to other regions soon.
The saga of Baldur’s Gate and its sequel finding their way to Xbox Game Pass seems to be a shadow dance at the moment. The notifications from the Game Pass app indicate that the games are already part of the service, but a direct check on the Xbox app on PC and console presents a contrary scenario. This discrepancy might suggest an imminent formal announcement from Xbox.
The Baldur’s Gate series, with its tantalizing blend of high-fantasy storytelling and meticulous attention to detail, has consistently delivered a rich and immersive gaming experience. Given the fervor surrounding the franchise, having the first two games on Xbox Game Pass could keep the gaming community engrossed while they anticipate the release of Baldur’s Gate 3.
So, whether it’s a stroke of good luck or a brilliant move, the potential advent of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2 on Xbox Game Pass is a welcome surprise. It’s time for Xbox players to buckle up and prepare to revisit the mythical city of Baldur’s Gate, awaiting official confirmation.
In the meantime, Xbox owners will want to make sure that they have enough storage. Baldur’s Gate 3 is expected to take up around 150GB of storage space when installed.
