The highly anticipated Marvel Animation revival of X-Men: The Animated Series, titled X-Men '97, has finally presented fans with the first trailer. As nostalgia sweeps over '90s kids, the trailer does leave burning questions about the plot.
Now that the initial hype of the X-Men '97 teaser has passed, some fans are concerned about certain points revealed in the trailer. Why is Professor X declared dead when he went with the Shi'ar at the finale of the original cartoon? Why would the Professor name Magneto as his inheritor? Is that really Jean Grey or is it Madelyne Pryor? Why is Sunspot in the team instead of Colossus or Archangel?
The trailer for X-Men '97 was released on various social media platforms, such as the official Marvel Studios X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, and Facebook accounts, and instantly kicked off several storms of speculation across them all.
The animated series picks up shortly after the bittersweet farewell in the original series finale, where Professor Xavier suffered a mortal wound. The trailer hints at Xavier's demise, with scenes depicting a mourning world and a funeral procession.
