WWE is reportedly close to selling out SummerSlam

WWE has yet to confirm any matches for this year's SummerSlam, which will be held at Detroit's Ford Field on August 5,

SummerSlam is one of the biggest and longest-running PLE events in WWE history.

The World Wrestling Entertainment is looking at a sold-out SummerSlam event at Detroit’s Ford Field on August 5 after it has already distributed 97% of available tickets nearly two months before the PLE kicks off.

WrestleTix revealed this impressive presale feat for the event that, to this date, still has no official matches yet.

According to the latest information, roughly 40,231 tickets for SummerSlam have been taken up, leaving only 4,373 of the total 44,604 tickets remaining. Of these, a substantial 2,893 are resale tickets. This means that only 1,480 original tickets are left up for grabs.

Cody Rhodes will have two months to “nurse” his injury and prepare for the eventual “final” match against Brock Lesnar.

WWE’s ability to pull such vast crowds is nothing new. Last year’s SummerSlam, hosted at the Nissan Stadium in Nashville, attracted an audience of over 48,000 fans. The 2023 SummerSlam event is looking to replicate this feat if not surpass it. In any case, this turnout is a sign of yet another successful year for the globally beloved entertainment company, which, earlier this year, enjoyed one of its biggest WrestleMania events year that was followed by a massive merger with the UFC.

The constant high demand for WWE PLEs is a testament to the company’s continued popularity and the excitement around every event.

This news comes on the heels of WWE’s new partnership with Twitch, which should boost WWE’s numbers going forward.

SummerSlam 2023 marks the first WWE PLE at Detroit’s Ford Field since WrestleMania 23 in 2007, which boasted a whopping attendance of over 80,000 fans. The company can’t exactly beat the said numbers but it’s hoping to replicate the atmosphere.

It’s unclear what the WWE has planned beyond SummerSlam on August 5.

While the WWE has yet to confirm any match for SummerSlam, it’s widely speculated that the third match between Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar will take place in Detroit. This means that the WWE is going to have to find a way to explain why it won’t happen earlier at Money in the Bank in London on July 1. Other rumored lineups include a potential title match for Roman Reigns and a rematch between Trish Stratus and Becky Lynch.

At the time of writing, the lineup of confirmed WWE PLEs extends only until SummerSlam but an unnamed PLE is scheduled for September 2 at a still-undisclosed location.
