The WWE is planning to make Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes WWE Tag Team champions

Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes are scheduled to compete against Damian Priest and Finn Balor at WWE Fastlane on October 7.

Cody Rhodes has done a lot of talking on Monday Night RAW lately but it's time that he finally put his money where his mouth is.

Jey Uso is coming back to Friday Night SmackDown on October 6 ahead of his confirmed appearance at WWE Fastlane just a day later. But, he won’t be alone in confronting The Judgment Day. He’ll tag along with Cody Rhodes in his return to his former home after the two landed themselves a shot at the Undisputed Tag Team Championships following a wild start to the October 2 Monday Night RAW episode

Monday Night RAW opened with an all-female brawl, involving none other than the incumbent champion, Rhea Ripley. In the next segment, The Eradicator warned Dominik Mysterio that he only has one more shot at getting back to her good graces. Of course, Jey Uso had to come out and get Ucey with Rhipley, which obviously didn’t go so well with The Judgment Day. As the RAW’s imminent faction ganged up on Main Event Jey, Cody Rhodes swooped in to save the day.

Afterwards, the WWE booked Rhodes Chodes and Jey Uso against Finn Balor and Damian Priest in Indianapolis.

But, that wasn’t the scuffle wasn’t the end of the kerfuffle. In an interview later on RAW, Rhodes proclaimed that he and Jey will follow The Judgement Day all the way to SmackDown. This marks Jey’s first appearance on the blue brand since he “quit” in August. In the same interview, The American Nightmare promised that he and Jey would go home with the gold.

Brandi Rhodes then further stoked the fires of speculation by going on X and basically telling everyone what the WWE had planned for the unlikely duo.

Both Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes are the closest any wrestler have been to dethroning Roman Reigns in recent memory. Now, they’ll find themselves working together against a common enemy. Their wrestling pedigree, charisma, and tag team history all guarantee that they’ll have at least some semblance of chemistry, but isn’t the main reason why Jey went to RAW was to establish himself as a solo act? Unless the WWE pivoted from its original plans at the last-minute once again, neither Jey nor Cody needs a tag team partner at this point.

The WWE can’t risk the momentum Jey Uso has built up as a solo act by forcing him into another long-term tag team.

So, what does that mean? Is Brandi Rhodes just goading The Judgment Day at this point? Or, for some reason, is Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso going to win the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships only to lose them shortly after? The latter is a definite possibility. It’s not like the WWE is running out of marquee PLEs anytime soon.

After Fastlane, the Crown Jewel (November 4), Survivor Series (November 25), and Deadline (December 9), are all lined up already before the year ends.

It wouldn’t be unusual for the WWE to have the odd pairing win a title belt together and give them a shorter title reign. If anything, it could all play into Cody Rhodes’ redemption story. With Roman Reigns poised to make his WWE return a few weeks from now and even defend his title belt, the WWE could push the timeline for their rematch forward, giving enough room for the long-rumored match between The Rock and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

Cody Rhodes’ stock in the WWE is high at this point but that doesn’t mean the WWE should get careless with him.

This isn’t quite the Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes for WrestleMania 40 that has reportedly long been WWE’s plans, but it would be a draw, nevertheless.

Of course, we’re looking too far ahead. For now, it’s best that we turn our eyes to October 6 and 7 as Jey Uso and Cody Rhodes have a chance to steal the show at both SmackDown and Fastlane, respectively.
