Wrestling fans have always had a WWE 2K game to look forward to for decades. Although the series had gone by many names before settling in with the WWE 2K series name since WWE 2K14 in 2013, an annual title was almost always guaranteed.
WWE 2K20 would change all of that. The universally panned release forced the game's developers and publishers to take a step back to reassess things and see where they went wrong. As a result, fans didn't get WWE 2K21. Instead, Saber Interactive worked on WWE 2K Battlegrounds, which, even though was a fun game, didn't really replace the wrestling sports sim that fans have come to love and grown up with.
Luckily, those who miss the standard WWE 2K game won't have to wait too long to get their hands on one.
WWE 2K22 Revealed at WrestleMania 37
In previous years, 2K sports and Visual Concepts usually revealed a new WWE 2K game sometime around SummerSlam. However, for WWE 2K22, there was a bit of a change. Instead, fans who tuned in to WrestleMania 37 found themselves with quite the pleasant surprise as a short but welcome teaser trailer for WWE 2K22 dropped.
The said trailer confirmed at least two current WWE superstars making an appearance with a glimpse of the kind of gameplay fans should expect in the upcoming title.
Perhaps more importantly, the teaser took no time focusing on the numerous visual improvements coming to WWE 2K22 compared to the last title, WWE 2K20.
