Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a major expansion this year. The DLC, titled Phantom Liberty, will bring many big changes to the game, including vehicle combat, a new skill and ability system, new quest types, and more. Phantom Liberty will feature an all-new, better ending for the protagonist as well. Gabe Amatangelo directed Phantom Liberty and it appears that the top brass at CDPR are impressed with his work that they've now placed him in charge of Project Orion, the game's sequel.

Bloomberg reporter and well-known industry insider, Jason Schreier, was responsible for this revelation.

Schreier interviewed Amatangelo at the recent Summer Game Fest where they discussed Phantom Liberty. It was during this interview that Amatangelo disclosed he will be returning to direct Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

In Schreier's words, "Amatangelo, who started in 2020 and became director of Phantom Liberty a year later, told me that after this he will direct the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077."

Cyberpunk 2077 launched to mixed reviews in 2020 but that didn't deter CD Projekt Red or shake their belief in it. They got to work, fixed most of the issues, and, by extension, their customers' trust. It was only after this that they announced an expansion – the only one for this game.
