Remember when Nintendo surprised us all by announcing and releasing the remastered version of Metroid Prime on the same day? Well, hold your breath and cross your fingers, because now we have an update on the remastered version of Metroid Prime 2.
In the latest episode of Last of the Nintendogs podcast, insider Jeff Grubb revealed that Metroid Prime 2 Remastered is being released “relatively soonish.” Now, what exactly “relatively soonish” means is anyone’s guess – hopefully sooner than Soon™ – but here’s hoping that Grubb’s sense of time aligns with ours and we get to experience Metroid Prime 2 on the Switch before the year ends.
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes launched in 2004 for GameCube and Wii, garnered critical acclaim and sold over 1.1 million copies globally. In 2009, an enhanced version hit the shelves for the Wii in Japan and as part of Metroid Prime: Trilogy worldwide.
Unlike its acclaimed predecessor, which is hailed as one of the greatest video games ever made, the Switch port of Metroid Prime 2 won’t receive the same level of treatment. Jeff Grubb earlier stated that while Metroid Prime 2 and 3 will be upscaled and feature updated control schemes, they won’t undergo the extensive overhaul seen in Metroid Prime Remastered.
It’s unclear whether the two games will be bundled together, but if they are, it would make sense to price the bundle at $40, similar to Metroid Prime Remastered, as they won’t be getting the complete treatment.
Nintendo’s decision to bring all three Metroid games to the Switch is certainly a smart move, considering the upcoming release of Metroid Prime 4. Although it will generate excitement for the new title, there is a slight concern that this strategy could potentially overwhelm gamers with back-to-back releases of Metroid Prime games.
Now, the question remains – what about Prime Hunters?
