Watch Out for the Fake Mass Effect 5 leaks

All of this is well and good until someone who knows what BioWare is doing killed the rumor with a single tweet.

Michael Gamble, currently serving as the Project Director / Executive Producer BioWare, specifically, as the big boss of Mass Effect 5, replied to a tweet on X and pretty much shot down the speculations.

If you think about it, the only thing that makes sense about this Mass Effect 5 leak is that it won't be available to play until 2030 - a full 13 years since Mass Effect: Andromeda came out. As much as Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is one of this decade's best remasters and a must-play, we doubt that the game would still resonate as much with audiences by then. At that point, it could be an entirely new game.

Having said that, most of the leak is likely fake anyway. The name, Dragon Age: Reorigins, sounds something Square Enix would do - not Electronic Arts and BioWare.

As previously mentioned in our report, the ideal scenario is for BioWare to remaster Dragon Age, but that isn't possible. Because of its use of the now-forgotten Eclipse Engine, remastering Dragon Age for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X requires a lot of hands, which BioWare likely can't afford right now. It's better off remaking Dragon Age: Origins from the ground up if that was the case. The only problem is that it's already working on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, the fourth game and the franchise's third direct sequel.

Unless you're, let's say, CD Projekt RED riding on the highs of the success of the The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, you can't afford to make a sequel and remake the first game in a series.

Of course, seeing the Geth and Leviathans team up isn't impossible. The latter are a gigantic race of advanced near-immortal telepathic organic beings, after all. If the "Destroy" ending is canon, which it could be since it's the only one that actually teases Shepherd's survival, wouldn't it be interesting for the Leviathans to come back into the picture now their creations, the Reapers, are gone? Would mean that the Geth are no more since they're Synthetic? Not exactly. The Geth could've survived the purge, or, at least, some of them. Lest we forget, the Geth were actively observing the Dark Space, a massive empty expanse separating galaxies, and were hinted to be looking at possibly moving to the next galaxy, Andromeda.

The possibility that a group of rogue Leviathans (or even just one) are working together with the Geth to take over the universe to finish what the Reapers started (or end all organic life, because, why not?) is certainly quite an idea even if it's not the most original one.

Ultimately, this is all speculation, and as much as we'd love to hear more about Mass Effect 5 anytime soon, we're better off going into cryosleep while waiting for the next update than believing this leak.
