NetherRealm Studios has been awfully quiet for a studio that's released a new game almost every year for most of the 2010s. The Mortal Kombat studio has spent the past decade alternating between its long-running controversial video game franchise and the Injustice games, which effectively inspired Zack Snyder's Justice League.
Now, a little over a year after confirming that it has ended support for Mortal Kombat 11, NetherRealm appears to be working on Mortal Kombat 12.
According to a since-deleted tweet from the voice actor of Johnny Cage, Andrew Bowen, he is doing something with Warner Bros. Just like his in-game character, Bowen wasn't subtle with the references. The video uses Mortal Kombat 2 music as background music. On top of this, as other fans pointed out, Bowen has posted similar updates over the past year. If true, this would suggest that NetherRealm has spent at least a year working on Mortal Kombat 12.
If nothing else, the timeline would fit the earlier tease straight from the Twitter account of NetherRealm Studios producer, Jonathan Anderson, as well as last year's report that the studio is working on Mortal Kombat 12 next, not Injustice 3.
