Gamer goes viral for impressive Game Boy collection

The collection is a treasure trove of nostalgia and has earned the envy of others who wants to have a similarly memorable collection.

The Game Boy and Game Boy Color were arguably the reason why there's a market for portable gaming consoles in the first place.

Once in a while, there’s nothing better than taking a deep dive back into the past. For many, the Game Boy brings back a wave of nostalgia. It’s a tiny piece of tech that played a huge part in the childhood of many gamers. For some, it’s a core memory that takes them back to simpler times. So, you can only imagine the smiles on everyone’s faces when a collector posted his collection of Game Boy games.

According to u/Captainjord, his collection of nearly 700 games on the shelves had stayed in storage for almost a year after he moved to a new house. But, now that he finally got a chance, he’s made a place where he can show off everything.

The poster explained that the collection “represents about 15 years of being focused on collecting for the GB” but he does have a few games for the Game Boy Advanced and Game Boy Color.

Most gamers who grew up in the 90s likely have fond memories of playing on the original Game Boy on a roadtrip and trying to see what was on the screen in the dark.

The original Game Boy was a pocket-sized miracle machine for Nintendo. It was a game-changer that proved that audiences could enjoy the magic of gaming on the go. The small grey box with its tiny screen (with no backlighting, mind you) was a constant companion for many gamers on road trips, after school, or when they simply want to lounge around on the weekends.

The joy of collecting isn’t just about owning the games. It’s about preserving their history, especially at a time when every game has become digitized.

As companies start to phase out physical copies of games, each one you hold in your hands acts as a time capsule that holds the stories of its players and its era.

Ultimately, this Game Boy collection is more than just a pile of old games. It’s a connection to the past. It’s a way to keep childhood memories alive. And, who knows? Maybe one day, these collections will become a valuable piece of gaming history.

After all, in this day and age, these sorts of things can fetch a high price on the market.

The Game Boy and the Game Boy Color collectively sold nearly 120 million units throughout their lifetime.

Speaking of the Game Boy, Nintendo surpassed its own record for lifetime sales as the Switch has now sold more than 125 million units throughout its lifetime. Judging by how the company is still so bullish on the hybrid console, it wouldn’t surprise us if it will end up outselling all other consoles within the next few years.
