As the dust settles on the thrilling cliffhanger ending of Fast X, we’re left wanting to know more about what’s next for Dom and his family. Now, the actor behind the franchise’s long-time lead has finally shed light on when we might expect to see the presumably final film in the franchise in theaters. Hint: it’s not close.
Vin Diesel recently went on Instagram to confirm that “part two” of the franchise’s finale will hit screens on April 4, 2025.
As per Diesel, that’s “22 months” from now, which should give Universal Pictures enough time to go under the hood and make sure that everything is in order before rolling out the film to give the series gets a fitting finale.
As the hardcore fans of the franchise know, the Fast and Furious universe has been a constant source of high-octane action and drama, as well as the unbreakable bonds of family and loyalty. Fast X has been no different, introducing a massive new threat in Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa). Reyes, hellbent on inflicting suffering on Dom Toretto and his family, managed to throw the entire team into jeopardy by the end of the movie.
In his Instagram post, Diesel extended his gratitude to the franchise’s passionate fanbase. He shared a photo of himself and Jason Momoa, who delivered an unforgettable performance as Dante Reyes, the terrifying antagonist in Fast X, saying:
I love how expressive and collaborative all of the actors in our franchise feel coming into the World’s Saga. Jason wanted to try something totally unique and special and ended up creating a scene-stealing character that the world won’t forget.”
The reveal of the release date of the 11th mainline Fast and Furious film has certainly charged up the anticipation. However, Diesel’s intriguing comments about the movie suggest that the team is planning something unique for this installment. He promised that Part Two is going to be an effort from the Fast family and Universal Pictures “like you have never seen.
The suspense is further heightened by Diesel’s subtle hints at a possible third installment to the Fast X saga. While nothing has been confirmed by Universal Pictures, Diesel’s comments at the premiere of Fast X suggests that the franchise isn’t ending anytime soon.
For what it’s worth, the return of an old friend might eclipse the anticipation for the still-unconfirmed third installment. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to return as fan-favorite character Luke Hobbs in a standalone project. This spin-off will serve as a bridge between Fast X and the next film. However, a director and release date for the standalone project is yet to be confirmed. The Rock was a last-minute addition to Fast X in a post-credits scene.
What remains unclear is whether this Hobbs-centric outing represents the official second chapter in the Fast X trilogy that Diesel has been teasing since the movie’s world premiere in Rome last month.
Regardless, the Fast franchise still has a long road ahead. From its origins as a tale of an undercover cop tailing a bunch of street racers infamous for boosting DVDs off of trucks in 2001, the franchise has evolved into a high-stakes, globe-trotting saga of high-speed heists, sci-fi elements, and the ever-present theme of family.
Louis Leterrier, who replaced Justin Lin as the director for Fast X, will return to helm Fast and Furious 11. After guiding Fast X to a successful stint at the global box office, Leterrier is all set to bring the curtain down on the franchise’s most intriguing saga yet.
If we’re lucky, Robert Downey Jr. will help him and Momoa give Fast and Furious an ending for the ages.
