Assassin's Creed writer, Darby McDevitt, is leaving Ubisoft after spending more than 10 years with its Montreal studio.

McDevitt most recently had a hand in the latest installment to Ubisoft's best-selling history-spanning action-adventure franchise, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, as the narrative director.

Both critics and players alike praised his work. In particular, many found it interested how he managed to tie up the numerous loose ends that have been long part of the game's complicated lore.

McDevitt is one of the most beloved employees of Ubisoft. He is known for his frequent fan interactions and how his creative imagination has helped bring to life some of the most memorable characters in the Assassin's Creed franchise.

His most notable original characters include Eivor Wolf-Kissed from the aforementioned Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Edward Kenway from Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.

McDevitt took to Twitter to announce his retirement. In his post, he thanked the people he has had a chance to work with over the years, as well as his fans. He also says that he has "decided to set forth on a new adventure."
