Call of Duty: Vanguard's release has been anything but smooth sailing. After receiving mixed reviews at launch, players immediately blasted Vanguard's multiplayer. In particular, gamers couldn't help but lodge complaints about the game's relative lack of new content as well as the overall lackluster state of Vanguard.
Fans are hoping that the arrival of Vanguard's second season will come and change that. Although the verdict is still out on if Vanguard can turn things around, the potential addition of a classic game mode does spell some good news.
According to Hydra9114 on Twitter, Ground War could come back to Vanguard Season 2 once it arrives on February 14. The translated Spanish post says that "Ground War would be coming for season number 2 of Vanguard." Meanwhile, the accompanying image features a large map set inside a Castle containing several POIs.
Call of Duty has almost always had Ground War as a game mode. However, it was notably absent in Vanguard and 2020's Black Ops Cold War. The latter tried to replace it with Combined Arms, which was a 24-player mode as opposed to Ground War's 64-player maximum limit. After Black Ops Cold War's failed attempt, it appears that Sledgehammer is going back to something proven to try and at least save face.
