CD Projekt RED's most recent game, Cyberpunk 2077, had multimedia franchise potential. In some ways, it still does. But, because CDPR dropped the ball on the game's launch, the gaming industry is still reeling from the effects of yet another overhyped title that ultimately fell below expectations.

To date, studios are still cautious about releasing their biggest games. Case in point, it is a common belief that Bethesda delayed Starfield because it didn't want the game to become Cyberpunk 2077.

If it's any consolation, CDPR is finally turning things around. Cyberpunk 2077 started getting positive reviews on Steam in November and even experienced a surge in sales following its most recent big update.

Finally, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting an expansion next year. This gives the game's few remaining fans a slight sliver of hope that it could finally start living up to its potential.
