Ukraine war puts a stop to GoldenEye 007 remake development

Work on the GoldenEye 007 remake is "in limbo" while 1 vs. 100 has lost its team lead.

A remake of GoldenEye 007 would fit in perfectly in today's world where people still don't know who the next James Bond will be.

GoldenEye 007 is one of the best Bond games of all time. It also influenced the video game industry, specifically, first-person shooters. At the time, FPS titles were a mostly PC genre. But, with GoldenEye 007, the rest of the industry saw that consoles could keep up.

Since its release in 1997, GoldenEye 007 has gotten a spiritual successor 2000’s Perfect Dark and a reimagining in 2010. However, rumblings of a modern remake have emerged in the past few years. Most recently, eagle-eyed fans spotted the GoldenEye 007 achievements for the Xbox online with more proof of a GoldenEye 007 remaster coming out last month.

But, while recent sightings point towards a positive sign for the long-gestating GoldenEye 007 remake, it appears that all is not well with its development.

We wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft just cancels the long-rumored GoldenEye 007 remake if it keeps on getting delayed.

The long-rumored GoldenEye 007 remake is reportedly “in limbo” because of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

According to Jez Corden, GoldenEye 007 is “still in limbo”. Corden never outright confirmed that work on GoldenEye 007 has stopped, but this isn’t good news.

The latest piece of information we have about the remake of Rare’s 1997 title is that it was supposed to appear at Summer Game Fest 2022.

The still-ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia has had a significant effect on the global economy. Many experts agree that the rest of the world will have to deal with stronger inflation and long-term damage to supply chains as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In the video game industry, several developers have postponed the release of their games in light of recent events, including Sad Cat Studios and REPLACED as well as GSC Game Studios and S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2.
