Skull and Bones faces yet another delay in its release, and this time it’s not alone in the shuffle. The oft-delayed pirate-themed adventure game is set to receive yet another new release schedule, one that will align it with another major, yet-to-be-named game.
Ubisoft stated in its most recent financial report that the new release date for Skull and Bones will be in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2023-2024. This means that the upcoming pirate game is coming sometime between January and March 2024. At this point, we cannot count the number of times that the release of Skull and Bones has been pushed back.
Alongside Skull and Bones, the first half financial report also mentions that it will not be releasing the “other large game” that is scheduled to come out at the end of the company’s fiscal year. Many believe that the unnamed game is Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world action-adventure title.

Ubisoft also lists the titles that are arriving from now until the end of March 2024 which include Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Just Dance 2024 edition, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Ubisoft’s free-to-play lineup includes Rainbox Six Mobile, The Division Resurgence, and XDefiant.
Ubisoft previously announced that Star Wars Outlaws is coming in 2024. So, getting delayed beyond March 2024 is still within that release window.
As for Skull and Bones, the game has been delayed so many times that many players have lost interest in the title. The internet has already lumped the naval warfare game with Beyond Good and Evil 2, Ubisoft’s other long-overdue game. Skull and Bones was announced in 2017 and had a Q4 2018 release date. The new release date means that the game has been delayed by over five years.
However, delaying Skull and Bones and Star Wars Outlaws to fiscal year may be a good choice for Ubisoft. The company can spread out its releases (and revenue stream) to cover most of the year. It is a good sign for the publisher that, just a year ago, was looking to be acquired by a bigger company due to financial struggles. The current fiscal year release lineup still looks good and should bring the publisher enough revenue to keep it profitable.
