Ubisoft has unveiled a new trailer for Assassin's Creed Mirage, the newest installment of its long-running historical action-adventure franchise. The studio dropped this trailer during Gamescom's Opening Night Live a few days ago.
The trailer opens with a bird's eye view - a returning staple of the series' aesthetic - of 9th-century Baghdad City and then progresses to show stunning visuals that include birds lounging in a pool and children playing beside a fountain.
In the background, we hear an ongoing conversation between a woman and the game's protagonist Basim. The two of them speak in Arabic, which makes the game feel more authentic because of its setting. There are English subtitles that make sure we can understand the conversation, though.
From what we've heard, Assassin's Creed Mirage players can choose to have the game's entire narration in Arabic. Since the game is set during Baghdad's Golden Age, we agree with this decision and think it will make the game more immersive, as well as culturally sensitive.
From the narration, we gather that Basim has been away from the city for years. He tells his companion about his early childhood in the city and explains his reason for coming back. All the while, we see our assassin accomplishing feats that look almost impossible. He scales high walls, moves stealthily and unseen through the city, and single-handedly takes on many enemies.
