Fans of The Legend of Zelda series will be thrilled at the latest addition to the Nintendo Switch Online library because two Game Boy Color classics from the famed action-adventure game franchise are coming to the Nintendo handheld.
Nintendo recently announced that both The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons are coming to the Switch Online library. The two spin-off games were originally released in 2001 on the Game Boy Color and were a critical success with each selling close to four million units.
Nintendo released a trailer for the re-release of Oracle of Ages and Seasons for the Nintendo Switch. Subscribers can now download the two games from the subscription service.
In Oracle of Ages, Link fights against Veran, the Sorceress of Shadows. Veran plans to use the Oracle of Ages to disrupt the flow of time. Link eventually gathers the eight Essences of Time to defeat Veran.
In Oracle of Seasons, Link goes to the land of Holodrum and goes to battle against Onox, the General of Darkness. Link has the ability to change the seasons to help save the land. In Seasons, Link gathers the eight Essences of Nature to help defeat Onox.
The endings of the two games are linked together through a password system. Characters and enemies change between the two titles and items can be upgraded and transported.
You can play these games on their own and in any order you choose, but completing both will allow you to experience the full saga,” Nintendo said in its announcement. “By linking the two games through their password system, some characters and enemies will change between the two adventures, items can be upgraded or transported and you can even discover the true evil force moving furtively behind the scenes. It will take a hero for the ages and seasons to truly defeat it!”
Nintendo Switch Online is available for just $20 per year and includes access to Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles. An upgrade, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is available for $50, which gives the subscribers access to Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games and expansions to popular titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Splatoon 2.
Nintendo Switch Online already offers a number of classic Zelda games including A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and The Minish Cap. There are rumors that The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD will also be coming to Switch Online according to rumors.
