Last year, Netflix unearthed a monstrous hit in the form of the Norwegian film Troll. Still riding high on the success of the record-breaking film, the streamer has now confirmed that a sequel is in the works, with the original team set to return to action.
Troll landed on Netflix with little fanfare but quickly climbed the ranks to become Netflix's most-watched non-English film ever. With over 100 million views in its first three months and ranking in the Top 10 in over 90 countries, it should come as no surprise that the streaming giant wants to capitalize on its success.
Directed by the talented Roar Uthaug, who also helmed the Tomb Raider reboot, Troll introduced us to an ancient creature awakened after a catastrophic explosion in the Dovre Mountains. As the troll heads towards Oslo, the government plans to destroy it with a nuclear bomb, prompting the lead characters, Nora and Andreas, to seek the truth.
They discover that trolls once lived in Norway, but they were wiped out by Christian settlers, and the creature they awakened only seeks to return home. If some of this rings familiar, you might have seen the movie called Trollhunter over a decade ago - the premise is very similar, and rooted in real folklore.
