Henry Cavill officially Netflix's The Witcher in July at the end of Season 3, likely because of fatigue according to director Marc Jobst. After his departure, work immediately began on the fourth and fifth seasons, with Liam Hemsworth taking up the mantle. Unfortunately, the WGA strike occurred, bringing the show's development to a halt.
With the strike over, fans will be pleased to know that work on the show has finally resumed. Javier Grillo-Marxuach, a writer on the show, shared this update via his X account a few days ago. The veteran screenwriter posted a picture of himself wearing a Witcher medallion and captioned it with the words, "we're back, witchers!"
Before the strike began, Netflix had already started working on the new season. The streaming giant even confirmed a fifth season, much to the delight of many fans. So, when the strike ended, work was expected to resume on the show, and Grillo-Marxuach's words simply confirmed it.
Initially, Netflix had scheduled filming to begin in September, but that plan was disrupted due to the strikes. With the WGA strike now over, the streaming service adjusted its plans and rescheduled filming for season 4 to next year. After a short break following the filming of season 4, production is expected to begin on the fifth season, following Netflix's original plans. However, these plans are not set in stone as the SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing.
