It is finally time to say goodbye to Henry Cavill in The Witcher. Netflix released a new trailer just before part 2 of Season 3 releases today. The third season of The Witcher has been split into two parts, which the showrunners for the TV series justified with the story arc being too big to release in a single volume.
The final trailer for Season 3 is just a little over two minutes long. The new video sees Geralt, Yenefer, and Ciri preparing for a final battle that will conclude the plot of Season 3. At the end of the trailer, we see Geralt face off against Vilgefortz which may be a hint at how the season wraps up the story arc.
Part Two of The Witcher Season 3 will only be three episodes long, bringing the total to 8 episodes which is on par with previous seasons. The third season of the popular TV series has been by far the most action-packed and entertaining.
Steve Gaub, one of the executive producers for the show, said that they have made sure that Cavill would be proud of his final scenes as Geralt. According to Gaub, the last episodes are “very strong episodes” for the actor.
“It’s a very strong season for Henry, a great final run for him as Geralt,” Gaub said in an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment last month. “I think the most important thing for us was to make sure he was very proud of those last [scenes], invariably those last moments are the ones you leave an audience with, and those last couple episodes are very strong episodes for him.”
The release of the final three episodes marks the end of Cavill’s stint as Geralt of Rivia. Many fans have been disheartened by the actor’s departure from the series. Some viewers have gone as far as petitioning Netflix to reinstate Cavill while others have said that they will boycott the show after Season 3.
Cavill will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth for season 4. Executive producer Tomek Baginski shared that Hemsworth reportedly looks “awesome” as the new Witcher. “One thing I can tell is I’ve already seen [Liam] in Witcher makeup,” Baginski revealed in an interview with Express Online. “And in the Witcher look. And he looks awesome.”
It will be interesting to see how the show transitions from one lead actor to the next. The producers of the show have teased a plan to introduce Hemsworth as the new Witcher. Fans speculate that Ciri will be teleported to an alternate universe in the upcoming season and will meet a new Geralt played by Hemsworth.
The Witcher Season 3 Part Two will be available for streaming on July 27, 2023.
