From the ashes of a fiery bout with Hall of Famer Edge, Grayson Waller, the rising Australian titan of wrestling, has thrown down the gauntlet with an audacious challenge to none other than The Rock.
Waller’s in-ring debut in the main WWE roster saw him go toe-to-toe with Edge at the heart of Madison Square Garden, no less, an encounter that left both viewers and his esteemed opponent visibly impressed. But it wasn’t his performance that set the internet abuzz – it was his bold attempt at making fun of The Rock’s Survivor Series debut, all the way back in 1996.
In a video that spread like wildfire all over social media, Waller donned the now-iconic-but-admittedly-cringey outfit The Rock wore in his MSG debut. “Can you imagine making your debut in Madison Square Garden, of all places, and you wear something like this?” Waller jestingly quipped, even going so far as to pull off a deliberately poor impression of the People’s Champion.

Ouch! Those classic 1999 schoolyard insults really still hit.
You still have an open invitation to be a guest on The Grayson Waller Effect though! Sounds like you’re in desperate need of the Grayson Waller rub #GWEffect https://t.co/mB1rNgf6wF— Grayson Waller (@GraysonWWE) July 12, 2023
The tweet, like a flare shot into the night, caught the attention of the legendary wrestler, who responded with his trademark charisma, even managing to convey his charm through the written word. His response, as you might expect, was humorous and biting: “Man you’re right! That outfit was so cringe… Here’s what’s more cringe – the fact you look and sound like you dropped out of some jabroni’s balloon knot. Nice haircut, you Outback Jack Off.”
Far from being deterred, Waller took the banter in stride. This time, he teased the iconic superstar for his “1999 schoolyard insults”. Proving his mettle, he upped the ante by extending an open invitation to The Rock to appear on an upcoming edition of his WWE talk show, The Grayson Waller Effect.
Unfazed by the backlash, Waller continued his daring publicity stunt by lampooning The Rock’s outfit yet again in a follow-up video. He finished his performance with a cheeky, “I change my mind, my MSG debut was better.”
The Rock, in his classic style, fired back with a witty riposte: “Ps, my cringe debut outfit was all @TripleH’s idea.”
At this stage, the Rock had not responded to Waller’s invite, leaving fans at the edge of their seats.
Is Waller’s audacious challenge to the Hollywood megastar and wrestling legend a calculated move or a genuine invite for a face-off? Only time will tell. However, one thing is certain: Waller’s confidence is as bombastic as his performance in the ring.
His swift rise to fame on the WWE main stage and his audacity to spar verbally with The Rock all point to a bright future for Waller. Having already shared the limelight with wrestling greats like Edge, John Cena, AJ Styles, and Logan Paul, Waller has proven he’s no shrinking violet.
Despite his quick wit and brazen behavior, Waller’s wrestling prowess is not to be dismissed. His impressive performances against Edge and others have earned him respect and acclaim from across the wrestling world. His fearless audacity has not only drawn the attention of The Rock but has also solidified his reputation as a wrestler of note, with big things expected of him in the future.
For Waller, taking shots at The Rock might have seemed like a risky gamble, but as we wait to see if The Rock will accept his invitation, one thing is clear: Grayson Waller has undoubtedly made a name for himself in the WWE.
Whether we will see a thrilling face-off between these two generations of stars remains to be seen. Will The Rock, the Great One himself, grace The Grayson Waller Effect with his presence? While that may seem like a long shot, in the exhilarating world of the WWE, anything is possible.
But, if we know the WWE, even if this isn’t scripted, it won’t miss a chance to capitalize on what’s hot. The Rock is welcome in the WWE, regardless of how long he takes in between his appearances. With The Hottest Party of the Summer just right around the corner and Grayson Waller still not booked for the event, this might be the perfect opportunity for these two to have a go at each other, even if only for a quick squash match with The Rock quickly dropping the host of The Grayson Waller Effect with a Rock Bottom and a People’s Elbow before pinning him down for the three-count.
