The Pokémon Company releases new Detective Pikachu Returns trailer

Detective Pikachu Returns is the sequel to the popular 2016 game Detective Pikachu and it will arrive this October.

Detective Pikachu Returns will arrive on the Switch this October.

On August 8, fans were treated to a brand new trailer for Nintendo’s upcoming game, Detective Pikachu Returns, at the Pokémon Presents event. Alongside new footage, the trailer provided more insight into the storyline so fans know what to expect.

We saw the game’s first trailer back in June, alongside a description. Between the two trailers and the description, we now have a pretty good idea of what Detective Pikachu Returns has in store for us once it’s finally released.

The description reads, “Unravel a series of mysteries across Ryme City with a tough-talking, coffee-loving Pikachu and his human partner, Tim Goodman. When a jewel theft occurs, the case sets this great detective duo down a path filled with mystery.”

The job of a detective is to provide answers to questions, and Detective Pikachu Returns asks some tough ones. The description continues, “Why did Tim’s father, Harry, go missing? What is causing the Pokémon-related incidents around Ryme City? Answer these questions and more by searching for clues, investigating scenes, and using your case notebook to make deductions.”

From initial looks, it seems the game will toe a different line from the live-action film released in 2019. In the film, Tim has lost his mother but in Detective Pikachu returns, his mother is alive and well. The game also has Pokémon that we didn’t see in the 2019 film.

We believe Nintendo made this decision so that both media can provide different experiences. In our opinion, it is the right decision. If the game’s storyline tallied with that of the movie, it would probably feel monotonous.

Detective Pikachu Returns will tell a different story from the movie.

Detective Pikachu Returns is a sequel to the highly popular 2016 game Detective Pikachu. That game, released for the Nintendo 3DS, was well-received by audiences and even got nominated for multiple awards. If the trailer is any indication, we believe the forthcoming game will be every bit as good as its predecessor and thrill players in much the same way.

In other news, Nintendo is working on a new Switch model. Even though the company has not provided any information on when it will release the console, there are rumors it will arrive late next year

If Detective Pikachu Returns piqued your interest, you can pre-order the digital version for $49.99. The game is quite large and has a file size of 10 GB. It is also a single-player game and supports all three play modes: TV, handheld, and tabletop. At the moment, we don’t know how much Nintendo will charge for the physical version.

Detective Pikachu Returns will arrive on the Nintendo Switch on October 3.
