Lucasfilm recently released a new trailer for The Mandalorian's upcoming third season and, within 24 hours, it garnered over 83.5 million views. With this number, it now holds the record for the most viewed trailer for a Star Wars series, beating the previous holder, Obi-Wan Kenobi, which had over 58 million views within its first 24 hours, by more than 25 million.
Lucasfilm had earlier released a teaser that was poorly received by the show's fans, partially because of the multiple leaks ahead of its release. This performance prompted many observers to suggest that the season's prolonged absence – the final episode of the second season aired well over two years ago on December 18, 2020 – has led to dwindled interest.
The new trailer's performance has put all doubts to bed since a record viewership number means fans are still interested in the Pedro Pascal-led show.
According to the show's official synopsis, Din Djarin and Grogu "will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together." In line with the synopsis, the trailer shows The Mandalorian making his way across the galaxy with his ward. It implies that the titular character will travel to his home country of Mandalore in search of forgiveness. It also suggests that Grogu is more adept at using the Force than the last time we saw him.
