Fans have eagerly been waiting for a follow-up to 2020’s The Last of Us Part 2, which perplexingly is getting a remake soon. While Naughty Dog still hasn’t officially confirmed the next installment, one of the series’ voice actors gave players a rather tepid “update” about the threequel, if you can call it that.
Jeffrey Pierce, who played Tommy Miller in the first two entries, recently discussed The Last of Us Part 3. In an interview with Dexerto, the voice actor revealed that he hasn’t started work on the third game. The actor also denied knowing anything about the upcoming game.
“At this point it’s not something that has begun in any fashion, at least, not that I know of,” Pierce said. “And I would hate to set myself up to have expectations about what it would be and then have it be something completely different.”
The voice actor did say that he has placed his full trust in creative director Neil Druckmann and says that the script will be “perfect” when it does finally arrive, praising the previous installments. The Last of Us has been a hugely successful and much acclaimed IP thus far.
He adds, “I’m going to trust when Neil hands me a script that it’s going to be perfect because that’s the way it’s been up until now. And when that happens and I’m asked about the Last of Us Part III, I have to say I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Pierce also talked about his excitement for the next entry, saying that he wants to play as a “bloater, clicker, or a runner.” The actor also gave Druckmann some advice about the importance of time. “I said to Neil, whatever you do, don’t do Godfather part three.”
Naughty Dog has so far refused to discuss the next installment of The Last of Us. Druckmann previously said that the studio is working on other projects outside of The Last of Us. There have been rumors that the studio is working on a brand new IP outside of its marquee franchises.
Despite not being officially announced, there have been persistent rumors about the game. One rumor says that it will feature the return of Ellie, while another says that the sequel will focus on a new set of survivors. Earlier this year, Druckmann said that there are more stories to tell within The Last of Us universe.
There have also been reports that the outline for the game is already complete, but focus currently lies elsewhere. Naughty Dog is currently preparing for the release of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered for the PS5. The game is coming as a Sony exclusive and will launch on January 19, 2024.
