Leaked price for base ASUS Rog Ally model draws mixed reactions

While most of the specs for the Z1 and Z1 Extreme-powered ROG Ally are the same, getting a boost in processing power and storage makes the Extreme edition more appealing.

The biggest difference between the two variants comes down to the CPU. The Z1 reportedly has 6 cores and 12 threads with 22MB of cache. The Z1 extreme has a beefier 8 cores and 16 threads along with 24MB of cache. The addition of two cores and four threads will make a huge difference in performance in more demanding titles.

Having double the storage space means that gamers can store more titles on the handheld device. However, users can expand the storage space with the MicroSD slot.

Aside from the CPU and internal storage, the hardware specs for the two variants are virtually identical. Both variants will have 16GB of DDR5 memory and feature Dolby Atmos Surround Sound Technology. The console will have AMD Radeon Navi3 graphics and a 7-inch FHD display with a refresh rate of 120Hz.

The leaked prices for the Z1 and Z1 Extreme variants are within spitting distance of their Steam Deck counterparts. The 256GB Steam Deck has a price tag of $530 while the 512GB model costs $650. However, Valve does offer the entry-level 64GB variant for just $399.

ASUS claims that the ROG Ally has double the performance of the Steam Deck. The ROG Ally will run on Windows 11 and can run games on Steam, Xbox Game Pass, and the Epic Games launcher which makes it more appealing.

ASUS will be hosting a showcase for the ROG Ally on May 11th and will be streamed on Youtube.
