One of the biggest video game tragedies in 2019 was the shutdown of Telltale Games, a popular adventure game developer and publisher known for their story driven titles, and which prided themselves on having legitimately impactful player choices. Now, another one of their titles is coming back from the dead.

Tales from the Borderlands was an officially licensed spin-off set in Gearbox's hugely popular sci-fi universe. Done in the iconic Telltale style where important plot points revolving around conversation options and quick time events were occasionally broken up by exploration sections and occasional puzzles, the episodic game shifted the focus from the vault hunters starring in the looter shooters.

Like all of Telltale's biggest hits, the game was based on an external license. When the company went under - in some pretty suspect circumstances - all of their titles were pulled from digital storefronts like Steam, GOG and others. Months after the closure, LCG Entertainment purchased all of the company's assets and revived Telltale, but many of the games were left in a legal limbo.

Skybound Entertainment stepped in to bring back what was arguably the company's most popular series, Telltale's The Walking Dead. LCG managed to bring back most of the Telltale library, but it took this long to sort out whatever licensing issues bogged down Tales of the Borderlands.

Gearbox and Telltale announced the news via official Borderlands social media channels, revealing that the game will become available for purchase once again starting February 17th. For those of you unfamiliar with the game, Tales of the Borderlands switches out the action for a more character driven story, but keeps the iconic slapstick Borderlands humor.
