The move is believed to be part of Phase 2 of Square Enix's plans following the earlier fire sale to Embracer Group.
Instead of coming out in October, Forspoken will be released in January.
According to PEGI's 18 rating, Forspoken will have "strong language, alcohol use and in-game purchases."
In an attempt to stagger its biggest upcoming titles, Square Enix is reportedly willing to push back Forspoken for FF16.
The studio behind the former Project Althia needed more time to work on the game, hence the delay.
The PS5-exclusive title from Square Enix is scheduled for a May 24, 2022 launch.
