The Star Wars franchise is one of the biggest and most profitable franchises in the world, spanning movies, merchandise, television series, comic books, and video games. But, the video games arm of the franchise is about to get bigger. A few months ago, we heard about Disney’s alleged plans to release two Star Wars games every year.
These plans are currently well underway, with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor kicking off the year followed by other upcoming AAA titles, including Star Wars: Outlaws and the presumably still-not-canceled Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake.
Another of these games is Star Wars Eclipse. We first got wind of the game in 2021 when the developer, Quantic Dreams, unveiled it to the world at that year’s The Game Awards.
As far as we know, the events of the action-adventure title will take place during the High Republic era of George Lucas’s sprawling galaxy and will feature numerous characters, species, and planets – all of them new.
For fans of the Star Wars franchise, the game can’t come soon enough, what with the all-new everything that it promises. Unfortunately, these fans will be waiting for quite some time.
According to an Insider Gaming report, Star Wars Eclipse’s developer is targeting a 2026 release date for the game – and even that is ambitious as the report states that it can be delayed further than that. As for the credibility of this story, Insider Gaming fingers the same sources that broke the news of Netease’s acquisition of Quantic Dreams six full months before its official revelation.
The 2026 release date is in line with the previous release window for the game, which Quantic Dream “denied” because, as per their earlier statement, you can’t delay a game that doesn’t have a release date.
Apparently, Quantic Dream’s inability to recruit staff members to work on Star Wars Eclipse is the main reason for the lengthy development. Keep in mind that, not long ago, a former employee brought allegations of toxic work culture and sexual harassment against the studio, and this has, naturally, made many people hesitant to work there.
Without enough hands on board, the game’s development will take longer than it ordinarily would, which can result in the release being pushed back.
Speaking of Star Wars, Star Wars: Outlaws will reportedly be exclusive on Ubisoft Connect, Ubisoft’s proprietary platform, for PC gamers. If this turns out to be true, we wouldn’t be surprised in the least, given the hype the game generated after the studio unveiled its trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month.
