Squid Game took the world by storm in 2021. After premiering on Netflix, the South Korean drama TV show went and set a new viewership record for the streaming platform, which made the sequel all but a foregone conclusion.
However, as Squid Game was always meant to be a one-off season, fans weren't expecting a follow-up to come anytime soon. Although Netflix hasn't given Season 2 of Squid Game a release date yet, it appears that the series' creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, is excited to share more about what's to come soon.
Dong-hyuk recently appeared with the rest of the cast of Squid Game on the red carpet before Sunday night's Critics Choice Awards. When ET asked the Silenced director, Dong-Hyuk said that he is "working on it", adding that they will "announce it soon" before asking fans to wait. He also pointed out the high expectations that Squid Game's second season will have, and how he'd "like to please people with waiting for the season 2."
Unfortunately, Dong-hyuk was mum about potential storylines that Squid Game season 2 might take up, which is opposite to Gi-hun's actor from last year when he indulged interested fans.
