There were a good number of games were announced in the recently concluded Nintendo Direct presentation. Square Enix was one of the most prominent developers during the event, announcing the remake of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy and their newest title Harvestella.

Square Enix also showcased the upcoming sequel to the turn-based role-playing game Octopath Traveler. The announcement came as a bit of a surprise, as a spin-off mobile game for Octopath Traveler was just recently released worldwide.

Octopath Traveler 2 will feature a new set of characters bound together by one epic quest. The sequel's story is not related to the original game and players can jump into the second game without issue. Octopath Traveler 2 will retain most of the turn-based RPG mechanics of the first game.

Octopath Traveler was well received by gamers and sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide with it being praised for its battle system and character progression. The sequel was teased in 2019 when Square Enix mentioned that a new console game was being developed along with a prequel that was coming to mobile.
