If you took the path of using sorcery spells in Elden Ring, then you must have already met Sorceress Sellen. Sorceress Sellen is both an NPC and a Merchant in Elden Ring. You can become her apprentice and purchase spells from her to use in your path to becoming the Elden Lord. However, Sorceress Sellen has a full questline of her own, and completing it can give you a powerful armor set in the game. This article will show you how you can complete her questline, with a guide for both endings.
Become Sorceress Sellen’s Apprentice
Your first encounter with Sorceress Sellen will be in the Waypoint Ruins. Head underground to the Waypoint Ruins and you will face the Mad Pumpkin Head boss. After defeating the boss in the area, you should find a small, open room so go ahead and enter it. Sorceress Sellen will be inside this room and you can choose to become her apprentice. After telling her you want to become her apprentice, you can purchase spells from her.
Meet Azur, the Glintstone Sorcerer
The next thing you want to do is meet Azur, a Glintstone Sorcerer. You need to go to the Hermit Village. To go here, start from the Erdtree Gracing Hill and climb up the cliff behind you and you will face Tibia Mariner in the Wyndham Ruins. Follow the path going inside Mt. Gelmir and activate the Seethewater River site of grace. Keep heading north and when you reach a fork, head west.
Keep following the path to the west until you get out of the mountains and discover the grace site of Seethewater Terminus. Go inside the wooden fences and then head south. You will encounter the Magma Wyrm. Simply follow this path to the east until you see a small wooden shack, to your right. There is another lost grace here that you can activate in the Craftsman’s Shack. Keep heading east and you should enter the Hermit Village.
Head past the village and you should see a lost grace to your left. Rest at the site of grace and you will meet Primeval Sorcerer Azur near it. Talk to the sorcerer and he will give you the Comet Azur.
Report back to Sorceress Sellen
After getting the Comet Azur, go back to Sorceress Sellen in the Waypoint Ruins Cellar and choose “Show Azur’s Sorcery” then “Tell me your Story”. She will ask you if you would like to restore the Glintstone Sorcery together. Accept her offer and choose the option of asking a favor. Sorceress Sellen will ask you to find Master Lusat and give you the Sellian Sealbreaker item. Ask her for a lead on Master Lusat and she will tell you that he is somewhere in the Caelid Wilds in Sellia.
Find Master Lusat
To start finding Master Lusat, go to Fort Faroth grace of site. To get to Fort Faroth, start from the Caelem Ruins and head east until you reach the site of grace. Once you are in Fort Faroth, head south until you reach a flaming stone wall. Head west, past the wall, and jump off the cliff. Once you are on the ground, head southeast and you will reach Caelid.
When you reach the cemetery on your right, look behind you and there will be an Illusionary Wall that looks like it is part of the mountain. Attack the wall and it will disappear. Go inside to reach Sellia Hideaway.
Keep following the path until you reach a dead end with a corpse on the ground. Attack the wall again to make it disappear, do the same thing on the next wall and you will get deeper access to the cave. Drop down to the lower level by jumping on the crystals in the cave.
Defeat the enemy on the ground and head northwest. You should see a small opening here that leads to a path. Follow the path and when you reach the open area, jump down to the lower floor using the crystals. Head north until you see a seal. Examine the seal to break it using the Sellian Sealbreaker item. Talk to Master Lusat at the end of the path and he will give you the Stars of Ruin.
Tell Sorceress Sellen about Master Lusat
Before doing the next step, we recommend defeating Radahn first to avoid any bugs in the quest or prevent it from freezing. Once you have defeated Radahn, go back to the Waypoint Ruins and talk to Sorceress Sellen. Talk to her about the request and then tell her about Master Lusat’s location. She will give you Starlight Shards as a reward. Now, it is time to find Sorceress Sellen’s body.
Find Sorceress Sellen’s Body
The next thing you want to do is to go to the Fourth Church of Marika. From here, head southeast until you reach the Witchbane Ruins. Go underneath the Witchbane Ruins and talk to Sorceress Sellen’s body. Accept Sellen’s primal glintstone and talk to her once again.
Go to Ranni’s Rise
The next thing you want to do is to go to Ranni’s Rise and head northeast until you see the ruins as shown in the photo above. Attack the floor and you will find out that this is an Illusionary Floor.
Go down the stairs and attack the Illusionary Wall at the end of the cave once again. You will see Sorceress Sellen’s body here so go ahead and transplant her Primal Glintstone to her. Once you are done talking to Sorceress Sellen, go to the Redmane Castle.
Talk to Jerren
You will find the Redmane Castle in the area before Radahn’s boss fights. If you haven’t already, we recommend defeating Radahn at this time to avoid any bugs in the quest. Go to the Chamber Outside the Plaza site of grace and go out to the hall. Turn right and climb up the stairs until you reach the building as shown in the photo above. You will find Jerren sitting inside the building. Talk to him and exhaust his dialogue before moving on to the next step.
Go back to the Witchbane Ruins’ cellar and talk to Jerren in the cellar and exhaust his dialogue again before moving on.
Challenge Sellen Ending
If you want to go and challenge Sorceress Sellin, go to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library and head east. When you go outside the library, you should see an option to be summoned to challenge Sorceress Sellen. Defeat her and you will get Sellen’s Bell Bearing and Witch’s Glintstone Crown. Jerren will also give you an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. You can also defeat Jerren after this to get the eccentric set, which is Jerren’s armor set.
Assist Sellen Ending
You can also choose to assist Sorceress Sellen instead. Go to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library and head east and outside the library. On your left side, you will see an option to assist Sorceress Sellen instead. Choose to be summoned by Sorceress Sellen and defeat Witch-Hunter Jerren. Once you defeat Jerren, you will get his eccentric armor.
Talk to Sorceress Sellen in the middle of the Raya Lucaria Grand Library. Talk to her once again and she will give you the Glintstone Kris. Go back to Master Lusat and Master Azur’s location to get both of their armor sets as well.
What to do if you cannot transfer Sellen’s Soul?
If you cannot transfer Sellen’s Soul into her new body, it may be because you haven’t defeated Radahn and the Full Moon queen yet. Try defeating them and going back to transfer Sellen’s Soul. You should also try going back to the Redmane Castle and exhausting all of Jerren’s dialogue before going back to Sellen’s new body. Some players may also encounter Jerren not spawning in the cellar of the Witchbane ruins.
When this happens, try going to the Raya Lucaria library and seeing if you can find the summon signs outside the library. If you reload the save after assisting or defeating Sellen, Rennala should return from her usual spot. If you do not see her in her usual spot, try looking behind the pillars in the library.
Summary
The whole questline of Sorceress Sellen focuses on her journey of reviving the Glintstone sorcery. You can choose to become her pupil and aid her in this journey, learning the story behind her expulsion from the Academy. There are two endings for Sorceress Sellen where you choose to challenge her or assist her. Each end will have a different set of rewards so choose carefully.
