Few internet personalities are as wholesome and as pure as Shirley Curry, better known for her internet nickname, Skyrim Grandma. Her endearing devotion to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has earned her a massive following online. Given how she’s become quite the sensation, you’d understand why fans were all but sure that Bethesda had tapped her to be a part of Starfield. But, as it turns out, this isn’t the case.
Despite rumors of the 87-year-old YouTuber appearing in Bethesda’s forthcoming space RPG, Skyrim Grandma vehemently denied her involvement.
Furthermore, Skyrim Grandma claims that she isn’t playing Starfield, saying that she’s “too angry” and frustrated at the long wait for The Elder Scrolls VI.
Shirley Curry first won the hearts of gamers worldwide in 2015 with her viral Let’s Play video of Skyrim. Since then, she has continued to share her experiences on YouTube, accumulating over 1.2 million subscribers and establishing herself as one of gaming’s most respected elders. This popularity led Bethesda to announce in 2021 that Curry would appear as an NPC in the much-anticipated Elder Scrolls 6.
In the gaming world, where the typical face is far younger, Curry’s presence as the Skyrim Grandma is a refreshing anomaly. However, she’s not just a passive figure; she actively participates in the dialogue surrounding these games. For instance, she has criticized Bethesda’s Todd Howard for the prolonged production of Elder Scrolls 6, voicing her desire to play it before she dies.
But fans of Skyrim Grandma expecting to see her in Starfield are set for disappointment. A recent Starfield Direct hinted at a character named “Grandma”, leading to speculation that this was an Easter egg nodding to Curry. However, Curry has since debunked this theory in the comments section of a recent YouTube video, repeatedly asserting that she is not in the game. Furthermore, she revealed her frustration at the delay of Elder Scrolls 6 and lack of interest in “space” games.
“I’ve been waiting too long,” Curry expressed, referring to Elder Scrolls 6, “I’m too angry because they came out with that instead of ES6.”
Even though Skyrim, the game that brought Curry fame, still holds a special place in her heart, she confessed to feeling a little bored due to the repetitiveness and lack of a new sequel to dive into. As for Starfield, despite her frustrations, Curry did not completely shut down the idea of trying the game when it comes out, but maintained that it’s just not her cup of tea.
Despite Curry’s disinterest in Starfield, the game offers a glimmer of hope for Elder Scrolls enthusiasts. The development is hinting at the potential advancements that could be employed in Elder Scrolls 6, given that both games are produced by Bethesda. Yet, for die-hard fans like Curry, only the arrival of Elder Scrolls 6 will satiate their appetite.
For the moment, the world waits alongside the Skyrim Grandma for the next Elder Scrolls adventure.
Hopefully, Todd Howard’s supposed swan song arrives before Shirley Curry moves on to Sovngrande.
