Shazam! 2 director, David F. Sandberg, has debunked rumors that the movie is undergoing reshoots. This follows a recent pushback of the movie's release date from December 22 to March 17, 2023. Sandberg made this revelation on his Instagram story as part of an impromptu Q&A session he hosted in honor of Labor Day.
The movie was initially scheduled for an April 1, 2022 release until the COVID-19 pandemic delayed filming. As a result, Warner Bros pushed back the release date to November 4, June 2, and finally, March 17 next year.
In response to the latest release date shift, several rumors claimed that Warner Bros. is doing reshoots for the movie. However, Sandberg has rubbished these rumors and added that they are "Definitely not shooting more." He claimed that they've decided on the final cut of the movie and it is undergoing minor post-production – final mix, color, and VFX – in preparation for its release.
Meanwhile, Sandberg had explained via a series of tweets last month that the prior release date shift is to avoid competing with Avatar: The Way of Water, which 20th Century Studios will release on December 16.
