The WWE world was shocked following the revelation that Seth “Freakin” Rollins will fight the “Nigerian Giant” Omos next month in Puerto Rico at the WWE Backlash PPV event.
Apparently, it wasn’t just fans who found the announcement surprising. Rollins went on Twitter to issue his very appropriate response to the situation, which the WWE RAW announcer, Corey Graves, responded to as well.
It’s safe to say that Rollins is as confused as we all are.

Seth Rollins is fresh off a majestic win over Logan Paul at WrestleMania 39. So, to see Rollins go up against Omos, who lost to Brock Lesnar in a squash match In Los Angeles, is definitely not what most were expecting.
There’s speculation that this is a way for Triple H to punish Rollins for allegedly walking out of a WWE RAW episode following alleged real-time script changes.
Regardless of what the truth is, Rollins vs. Omos makes little sense.
You could argue the same logic applies to Brock Lesnar and Omos and you’re partly right. The only difference is Lesnar has a history of going up against giants – Rollins doesn’t. It’s not like Rollins can magically lift Omos up in the air, which Lesnar is actually capable of doing. But, who knows? Maybe this isn’t a punishment. Maybe Triple H sees something we don’t and he’s giving Rollins a chance to create a special kind of match against his largest opponent yet.
In any case, there’s still plenty of time for the WWE to flesh out the matches for the 2023 WWE Backlash.
With two more Monday Night RAW episodes, the WWE could use this time to develop the storyline between Rollins and Omos as well.
Here are the confirmed matches for WWE Backlash:
- Bronson Reed vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Austin Theory (c) – Triple Threat for the WWE United States Title
- Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes
- The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, The Usos) vs. Matt Riddle and the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions, Sam Zayn and Kevin Owens
- Seth Rollins vs. Omos
