Melissa Barrera is one of the new stars of the Scream franchise with two features under her belt within the last two years. Now, the Mexican actress is set for even more success as she is set to star in an untitled Universal Monster thriller film in the works at Universal Pictures.

At the moment, there aren't many details available about the film. However, the film will reportedly provide a unique take on Universal Pictures' monster universe and reimagine one of its classic monsters following in the steps of the Studio's recent films like The Invisible Man as well as the yet-to-be-released Renfield.

According to the Deadline article that first reported the news, Universal Monster films are films that, while they are rooted in the horror genre, are not limited to that category. They also have neither budget nor ratings restrictions. Each film is independent with its direction and story determined by filmmakers who are expected to be innovative.

Barrera will be reteaming with Radio Silence, the director duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed both Scream installments she starred in and will helm the Monster film. No other cast members have been announced.
