Melissa Barrera, one of the stars of the Scream franchise, has revealed the next installment of the film series, Scream 6, will have more gore than its predecessor. Barrera revealed this during an interview with Collider's Christina Radish.
The Scream franchise is one of the most famous film series in the horror genre. The first film in the series, directed by Wes Craven, was released in 1996.
While Scream itself was a slasher film, it satirized the genre, spawned a series, and earned a cult following. Craven went on to direct three sequels, Scream 2, Scream 3, and Scream 4 before his death in 2015.
Scream 5, which saw the Radio Silent directing duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett in charge, paid homage to Craven's vision for the franchise and kept a cap on the gore. But, according to Barrera, things will be different in the next sequel. Apparently, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are always asking for more blood and sweat on set.
In her words, "With the last Scream, they were tip-toeing and trying to be very respectful of what the franchise had been, up until that point, and keeping their inner gory dreams at bay. But with this one, they were like, "We're going all out." It's potentially a hundred times gorier."
