Scream 6 will premiere this weekend and ahead of its release in movie theaters, critics got the chance to share their thoughts about the upcoming movie. After successfully reviving the franchise last year with Scream 5, the film’s directors, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, had the tall task of meeting fan expectations.
But, judging from the initial reactions, Scream 6 has exceeded most of its predecessors and might even best Scream 2 – widely considered the best installment in the series.
As of the time of the writing, Scream 6 hovers between 77% and 82% on Rotten Tomatoes with roughly a dozen reviews. This number could go up or down over the next few days, but we’re confident that fans will love it just as much as the critics have.
Here’s a round-up of some of the best critic reviews of Scream 6:
- IGN Movies – 9/10
- NME – 4/5
- London Evening Standard – 4/5
- Independent (UK) – 4/5
- ComicBook.com – 4/5
- Punch Drunk Critics – 4/5
- Associated Press – 2.5/4

Giving Ghostface a bigger playground in New York caused quite a bit of concern among fans. The larger, more open-world setting could’ve taken away from the suspense of the upcoming slasher-horror installment. However, the directors appear to have achieved the near-impossible and given fans exactly what they wanted – and then some.
Apparently, dialing the gore up to 11 works when it’s done tastefully and for a good reason. Not to mention, despite being the series’ longest film yet, Scream 6 doesn’t appear to drag on for too long.
It remains to be seen if enough audiences will watch Scream 6 to guarantee a sequel. Given the backward slide of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the expected decline of Creed III at the global box office in its second weekend, Scream 6 has a good shot at doing just as well if not better than Scream 5 when it premieres on March 10.
Fingers crossed, the money this film makes will allow for Scream 7 to feature Neve Campbell.
