Ryan Gosling To Channel Ken In Oscars 2024 Performance

“I’m Just Ken” is one of two Barbie songs nominated for Best Original Song. The other is “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Finneas.

Mark Ronson, who co-wrote "I'm Just Ken" with Andrew Wyatt, has expressed a strong preference for Gosling to be the one to perform the song at the Oscars, rejecting the idea of any other singer taking his place.

Ryan Gosling is stepping into the Adidas Box Hog 3 in the Sky Rush colorway shoes of his Barbie character to perform “I’m Just Ken” live on Sunday, March 10.

This performance is noteworthy for several reasons, not least because of the uncertainty that surrounded Gosling’s participation due to the challenges associated with the song.

Unlike Gosling’s decision not to perform “City of Stars” from La La Land at the Oscars seven years ago, Gosling has embraced the opportunity to showcase “I’m Just Ken,” a song that has become a comic highlight of Barbie.

"Dance the Night," co-written by Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt, Dua Lipa, and Caroline Ailin, could not be nominated due to the event's restrictions.

The decision for Gosling to perform at the Oscars adds a layer of excitement to one of the year’s most highly anticipated events. His involvement in the live performance is an indication of his willingness to take on the challenge of bringing the song to life on the Oscars stage, highlighting his dedication to his role in Barbie. Finally, his nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Ken in Barbie, providing him with a unique opportunity to captivate the audience, regardless of the outcome of the awards.

Gosling’s upcoming performance has generated significant interest, making it the first time he will perform the song during this awards season. Despite being nominated for a GRAMMY, Gosling did not perform at that event, making the Oscars performance all the more anticipated.

The song’s success, including a Critics Choice Award win and a Grammy nomination for Best Song for Visual Media, highlights its widespread acclaim and the impact of Gosling’s portrayal of Ken in the Barbie soundtrack.

The 2024 Oscars, airing live on ABC and broadcast outlets, will take place at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood with Jimmy Kimmel as the host.

Barbie was one of last year’s biggest box office hits, swooping in to save the day as Disney struggled to make bank following a series of disappointing outings, starting with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
