2023 looks to be a year of Digital Gaming Showcases. While E3 has been canceled, console makers are making up for it by hosting games showcase events.

A new rumor suggests that Nintendo has plans to have an "additional Digital Showcase this year." The company already held its first Nintendo Direct last February 8, 2023, which announced Metroid Prime Remastered and showcased The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

According to Kotaku's Ethan Gach, both Sony and Nintendo will have additional games showcase events in 2023. However, he did not disclose when fans might expect the shows to happen.

Nintendo typically hosts two or three Direct events each year. Last year, the company held two Nintendo Direct showcase. The first showcase announced Switch games coming in the first half of 2022 while the second event revealed what studios were working on and games that were releasing in the holidays.

The timing of the rumor coincides with what would have been the E3 season if the annual gaming event wasn't canceled. Nintendo may be planning a showcase in place of an E3 event.
