Rockstar is promising GTA Trilogy updates in early March

According to the long-time Grand Theft Auto developers, new patches are coming to the remastered versions of the PS2-era GTA games next week.

GTA Trilogy probably won't ever be 100% fixed (the original games weren't always working either), but it should be in a better state than it is right now.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition should have been an easy win for Rockstar Games. Instead, the compilation of PS2-era GTA titles was easily Rockstar’s worst launch in a while. After it came out on November 11, GTA: The Trilogy was panned by audiences and critics alike to the point that customers started asking for refunds en masse. Although Rockstar has promised to fix the bundle since then, the GTA Trilogy’s current state still isn’t ideal, to say the least.

The good news is that Rockstar remains committed to providing fixes for GTA: The Trilogy, which the studio reaffirmed in a recent tweet.

According to Rockstar Games’ official Twitter account, a new update for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will go live sometime next week. In addition, Rockstar confirmed that the patch will be available across all platforms. Unfortunately, Rockstar did not go into specific detail about what the upcoming update will include, but if the patch warrants an “announcement”, then we can expect something substantial from it.

Despite the GTA compilation’s poor sales performance, Take-Two’s CEO still considered the game a success for the company. Although his comments ruffled feathers, Strauss Zelnick probably wasn’t lying – customers would have still flocked to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition even with the issues that it had at launch. However, the bundle’s popularity is no reason for Rockstar to rest on its laurels and it’s nice to see that they’re still doing something about it, months after the game hit the market.

Then again, it is in Rockstar’s best interest to fix GTA Trilogy, or else it will sully the GTA brand. After all, Rockstar just confirmed GTA VI earlier this year with Take-Two “accidentally” revealing the game’s release date. There’s also the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X version of Grand Theft Auto 5, which is coming later this month.

Fans are still waiting for GTA Trilogy to make its way to Steam and other launchers.

Hopefully the next series of fixes will finally solve most of the issues of GTA Trilogy. This way, Rockstar’s future announcements wouldn’t be met with much skepticism.

Speaking of, Rockstar is reportedly sitting on remasters and remakes of some of its classic titles. For example, the latest word on the grapevine is that the studio is planning to release a remaster of the criminally underrated GTA IV. Not only that but there are talks that the GTA 4 remaster will be released in the same year as the remake of the first Red Dead Redemption.

GTA Trilogy would have probably worked better off the gates if Rockstar partnered with modders who've spent dozens of hours modernizing the classic GTA titles.
