If you’re worried Remedy Entertainment will have trouble funding the Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake, don’t. Apparently, Rockstar Games is fully funding the project, which will combine both games into one big title.
According to Remedy Entertainment’s latest financial statement, Rockstar is helping to bring the first two installments of the Max Payne saga to the latest generation of gaming hardware.
Using Remedy’s proprietary Northlight video game engine, the same one that it used to make Control and Alan Wake 2, the remake promises to deliver a cutting-edge gaming experience with little to no expenses spared. Rockstar’s generous funding of the remake indicates its massive scope; it’s clear that it wants to reintroduce the franchise, presumably as a prelude to a larger reboot.
Remedy is no stranger to receiving funding for its games. Epic Games Publishing put in a significant financial investment in Alan Wake 2 and other games that are part of the Remedy Connected Universe. Although Remedy hasn’t profited from Alan Wake 2 yet, the award-winning title did recoup a substantial portion of its development budget shortly after release. Thus, this sets high expectations for both the critical and commercial success of the Max Payne remake.
The narrative will once again follow Max Payne, a detective haunted by his past who’s finds himself embroiled in a web of conspiracy and betrayal. The remake promise to breathe new life into the story, enhancing the emotional depth and visual impact of Max’s journey.
Remedy Entertainment is currently deep in the development of at least three confirmed titles. The studio confirms that Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake, Control 2, and Condor, will advance to the next stage of their respective developments before the first half of the year ends. Unfortunately, the costs of making free-to-play games proved too much for Remedy to handle. Thus, it has officially canceled development on Codename Vanguard, which was later rebooted and renamed Codename Kestrel.
Except for the remake of Max Payne 1 and Max Payne 2, every game Remedy currently has in development is part of the Remedy Connected Universe.
Remedy is expected to release a new DLC for Alan Wake 2later this year.
