Exactly 45 years after Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope premiered back in 1977, Ewan McGregor is set to reprise his role from the prequel trilogy. The upcoming Disney+ series will star the Star Wars actor in a four-episode limited series set in between the events of 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, showing what the fan-favorite Jedi has been up to during the ten-year gap now that he’s one of the few Jedis left.
Unfortunately, despite revealing the premiere date of Obi-Wan Kenobi, May 25, Disney has kept a tight lid over other important details regarding Obi-Wan Kenobi. Fans haven’t even gotten a trailer yet, which many believed would be part of Super Bowl LVI. But, if we believe the recent rumors, the wait is all about to come to an end.
According to Making Star Wars, an anonymous source tipped them that the upcoming Star Wars show’s first trailer is coming on March 9. Furthermore, the outlet claims that the same source showed proof of legitimacy by showing a series of images. Of course, as Making Star Wars is not affiliated with Disney, take everything that you just read with a grain of salt.
A March 9 release for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s first trailer feels just right, but definitely overdue. You have to remember that the limited Star Wars series will drop on May 25. That’s a little over two months from now and Disney has barely made any effort to market the show.
If it’s any consolation, Disney tends to wait less than two months from a show’s launch date to drop its first trailer. Case in point, The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian Season 2 both got their first trailers on November 1, 2021, and September 15, 2020, respectively.
If we go by Disney+’s usual release schedule, the first Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer is more likely to drop anytime between the last week of March and the first week of April.
In the meantime, the lack of official details from Disney regarding the show has paved the way for fans to speculate and theorize. For example, the two most prominent rumors suggest that Bail Organa and Qui-Gon Jinn will both appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Only time will confirm if these are all true, and luckily, May 25 isn’t too far, far away.
Speaking of far, far away, Quantic Dream is struggling to hire people for Star Wars Eclipse, resulting in a tentative release window of 2027. Judging from the game’s announcement trailer last year, Eclipse is an ambitious game that should not be rushed. Thankfully, Respawn Entertainment will be riding Star Wars fans over with a stylish Titanfall-like shooter and a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, as well as one more unannounced title.
