Princess Peach to star in own game on Nintendo Switch next year

This is just the second time that Princess Peach will become the playable protagonist in a Mario game in history.

After dozens of Mario games, Princess Peach is starring in her own game just the second time.

One of the upcoming Nintendo Switch games catapults a familiar, yet fresh, protagonist onto the digital stage – none other than Princess Peach herself.

A tantalizing throwback to 2005’s platformer Super Princess Peach, this new venture has sparked a flurry of excitement and intrigue among ardent fans. Peach, the traditionally damsel-in-distress character, steps in as the central player-controlled character, transforming the long-standing gaming narrative.

In a burst of bright hues and thrilling graphics, Nintendo developers teased fans with an inscrutable trailer at the June 21 Nintendo Direct showcase. Princess Peach emerged, blossoming onto a stage, weaving through a maze of facsimile castles and diminutive foes to sparkle her way to victory. A seven-point star (complete with ribbon arms!) trailed her, harnessing its power to clear her path and complete set pieces. Intriguingly, when Princess Peach steps on a particular spot on stage, the cutscene triggers a fantastical transformation. Her dress whirls in a flurry of colors, turning from Cinderella blue to supernova white.

Nintendo Direct’s showcase this year was a cornucopia of announcements that not only surprised but thoroughly delighted the gaming world. The new Peach adventure stands out, holding the promise of an immersive gaming experience that may break traditional gaming tropes.

As our pink princess makes her solo appearance, she’s a damsel no longer in distress but a competent, cool character. The developers have a rich opportunity here to deepen her persona beyond the stereotypical shallowness, giving her depth, strength, and perhaps an exciting array of abilities that match her newfound independence.

The mystery game was also mentioned alongside the Super Mario RPG remake and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, all of which prove that the gaming giant is certainly not resting on its laurels.

The game doesn’t even have a standalone trailer yet but fans are already excited for it.

With such a tantalizing roster of releases, Nintendo is making a concerted push for gaming supremacy, presenting an array of experiences set to dazzle fans worldwide.

While the untitled Princess Peach game is slated for a 2024 release, the specifics remain as elusive as a mirage. The game appears to be a side-scroller, featuring a stage-based environment packed with new characters. Despite the tight-lipped silence from Nintendo, the community is alight with speculation and eager anticipation. This suspense around the unknown elements seems to be serving its purpose, keeping fans and critics alike on their toes, eagerly awaiting the next nugget of information.

Hopefully, its success will pave the way for a Zelda-led spin-off to The Legend of Zelda, which is currently enjoying a ton of success following the release of Tears of the Kingdom.
