Sony has just unveiled the upcoming list of games for its PlayStation Plus game catalog for the month of September as a staggering 20 new additions are scheduled to hit the subscription platform. Notably, players who like JRPGs, strategy and those who enjoy quirky and unique gaming experiences have a lot to anticipate when the games launch on September 19..
Foremost among the highlights for the month is Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, which is an enhanced version of the 2010 original. It’s accompanied by 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, a fascinating tale that weaves through thirteen stories, and Star Ocean: The Divine Force, a space opera replete with enthralling narrative and speedy combat.
On the other hand, for gamers who thrive on tense scenarios and adrenaline, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 is set to drop. It places players deep within enemy lines, presenting them with challenging long-range shots to take. Though the Sniper Elite series by Rebellion Developments has long been the gold standard, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 steps up to the plate. With its plethora of inventive gadgets, replayable missions, and the sheer thrill accompanying every pull of the trigger, it guarantees an experience like few others.
Mind you, not every incoming game is about heart-stopping action or intricate tales. Unpacking offers a more relaxed atmosphere, asking players to settle into new homes and organize their possessions. But beneath its calm surface, it’s a poignant story waiting to be unraveled hidden by its gameplay, which features a a seamless blend of block-fitting and home decor simulation. Unfortunately, not all of September’s offerings have been met with applause. Contra: Rogue Corps, for instance, serves as a grim reminder of how not to reboot beloved franchises. Despite the nostalgia associated with the Contra name, this iteration has been widely criticized and is considered by many as a subpar twin-stick shooter.
The PlayStation Plus Premium tier offers a bonus for classic game enthusiasts. It adds four more titles to its library, the three of which are from the Star Ocean series – Star Ocean: First Departure R, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, and Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Dragon’s Crown rounds up the quartet. It’s worth noting, however, that Sony recently increased the prices for all PlayStation Plus tiers.
As of September 6, those considering the PlayStation Plus Premium will find themselves paying an additional $40 every year. Naturally, this move has been met with much criticism.
This extensive list of games wasn’t completely unexpected. Prior to the official announcement, a leak had already hinted at the probable lineup for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers, and the reveal closely mirrored these predictions. A chunk of the leaked titles, are notable present.
But, while the latest additions to the PS Plus’ more expensive tiers are high-quality, some can’t wonder if Sony is turning a blind eye to the still-ongoing backlash.
A more expensive PS Plus implies that Sony will double down on adding more high-quality games to the platform. This hasn’t been the case in recent months. For Sony to announce a price hike, a lackluster PS Plus Essential lineup and what can only be described as a good-but-not-great set of additions to PS Plus Extra and Premium all in the same month isn’t a good sign for the rest of the holiday season.
If nothing else, Sony is at least trying to foster excitement for the upcoming remake, STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY R.
Unfortunately, this bitter feeling is mad worse with the departure of Deathloop, which leaves the service on September 19, among other things. The title’s exit now positions Xbox Game Pass as the sole subscription platform offering the game.
