The two Suicide Squad films released so far have been largely forgettable. However, both movies do feature standout performances from their actors. Case in point, 2016's Suicide Squad effectively sealed Margot Robbie's future in the DCEU as Harley Quinn. It appears that 2021's The Suicide Squad has done the same for John Cena and his Peacemaker.

As revealed in a TV Top 5 podcast by Jason Gunn, the Guardians of the Galaxy director confirmed that the future is bright for Peacemaker. Gunn added that Peacemaker takes place in the same universe as the rest of the DCEU.

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad was one of the rare DCEU films that critics and audiences alike loved. But, for some reason, the latest DCEU movie just didn't do well at the box office, failing to recoup its $185 million budget. Despite the lack of commercial success, Warner Bros still believed in James Gunn's vision enough that it gave him the reigns to the HBO Max TV show spinoff, Peacemaker.

So far, Warner Bros' investment in Peacemaker has paid off. After premiering with three episodes last January 13, audiences can't seem to get enough of it. According to Samba TV, more than 638,000 households in the United States tuned in to watch Peacemaker within four days of its launch on HBO Max. This aren't exactly Disney-esque numbers, but it does give Warner Bros another reason to double down on Peacemaker.
