When Mortal Kombat 1 made its long-awaited debut last month, it was to an enthusiastic reception, launching itself to the spot in the UK boxed charts. Despite this, developer NetherRealm Studios didn’t sit back and relax. Instead, it went to work on post-launch characters for the game. Now, the studio has released a gameplay trailer for one of them – the fan-favorite Viltrumite, Omni-Man from Invincible.

NetherRealm showed off Omni-Man at the just-concluded New York Comic Con. In the trailer, fans get a feel of how it would feel to play the character. If the trailer’s depiction is anything to go by, it will be an exciting experience.

For one, Omni-Man’s characteristic brutality shows through. In the first scene, we see him team up with Tremor against Liu Kang and Scorpion. He doesn’t need Tremor’s help, though, as he thoroughly defeats both adversaries all by himself thanks to his incredible speed and strength.

When Omni-Man finishes with Kang, he smashes his head with his bare hands in a move that is reminiscent of what fans have seen from the Invincible show. The trailer shows other Fatalities and Fatal Blows moves and they are all as gory as the first, which means they will fit right into the Mortal Kombat universe.

Omni-Man’s sidekick Tremor was a surprising revelation in the trailer. The earth elemental ninja last appeared in 2015’s Mortal Kombat X but will make a return as a Kameo Fighter in Mortal Kombat 1. Kameo Fighters are support characters that players can call on for help during gameplay sessions.

The feature is new to the Mortal Kombat franchise and made its debut with Mortal Kombat 1. Other Kameo Fighters, apart from Tremor, are Sonya Blade, Stryker, Jax, Goro, and Kano.

Mortal Kombat 1 will have five DLC characters with Omni-Man the first to arrive on November 3.

NetherRealm only recently unveiled the game’s DLC character roster. Before the reveal, many fans clamored for Omni-Man to be added to the title’s DLC characters. Omni-Man’s inclusion is hopefully a sign of the studio’s commitment to actively listening to fans and integrating their wishes into the heart of its creative process. Aside from using his moves from Invincible, the studio also brought in J. K. Simmons to reprise Omni-Man’s voice role from the show.

Omni-Man is the first DLC character to arrive for Mortal Kombat 1 and you can get your hands on him by purchasing the Kombat Pack add-on for $39.99 starting on November 3. Alternatively, Omni-Man comes standard as part of the Mortal Kombat 1 Premium Edition for $109.99.

Five other characters are included in the Kombat Pack – Homelander, Quan Chi, Peacemaker, Takahashi Takeda, and Ermac, and they will arrive from winter 2023/24 to summer 2024. The Kombat Pack will also have five Kameo Fighters gamers can call on for support during combat – Tremor, Ferra, Janet Cage, Khameleon, and Mavado.

The base Mortal Kombat 1 game is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. Unfortunately, the Switch port debuted with various glitches, prompting the game’s director Ed Boon to promise they would fix the problem. Making good on that promise, a new update was rolled out.
