No Man’s Sky adds a deadly threat with the Interceptor update

The latest No Man's Sky update adds corrupted planets, rogue sentinels, and a new type of spaceship following a tease from the developer.

Corrupted worlds are worth exploring but may be deadly.

A few days ago, the No Man’s Sky community was buzzing as its creator, Sean Murray, tweeted a purple devil emoji. Fans know that Murray teases upcoming updates with singular emojis that players try to decode.

Hello Games just released the Interceptor update for the long-running space exploration adventure game. The new update brings a new type of ship, corrupted planets, and smarter and deadlier Sentinels.

“Many worlds have succumbed to corruption, with strange crystals sprouting from the earth, and sentinel guardians twisted into bizarre new forms,” Hello Games describes the new update. “Explore these purple-hazed worlds to find new buildings, crashed interceptors, secret equipment, and more.”

The newest update introduces the Interceptor starship as a new ship type. Players can now explore planets in search of crashed Sentinel ships which they can then repair and collect. There is a wide range of procedurally-generated Interceptors, each with its own unique design.

Interceptor starships are powered by new Sentinel components. These can be found by eliminating corrupted androids and looting them for parts. The Anti-Gravity Well is used for take-off while the Crimson Core powers the warp drives of the new spaceship.

The Interceptor update also adds Corrupted Planets to the game. These planets can be recognized by the strange purple crystals sprouting from the ground with large robot guardians watching over them. Space adventurers can explore these new worlds where they may find new buildings, crashed Interceptors, and new resources.

The corrupted Sentinels are more dangerous and aggressive.

No Man’s Sky will also be adding corrupted Sentinels in the newest update. Corrupted worlds have warped Sentinels into colossal semi-arachnid machines that are very aggressive. These corrupted guardians use flamethrowers and artillery to deal damage to unsuspecting explorers. The update also improves the combat capabilities of the Sentinel Quads making them more deadly and agile.

Players can also find ominous Dissonance Resonators that drill into the crust of corrupted worlds, spreading decay and darkness to the surface. These are built with rare Sentinel materials and can be destroyed by space explorers.

Adding to the dangers of space exploration are the new Sentinel Capital Ships. Brave pilots can engage these massive ships in massive space battles. Defeating these massive Space Freighters rewards intrepid explorers with huge rewards and forces the Sentinel horde into retreat.

The new update features massive space battles against Sentinel Capital Ships.

The update also adds two new Multi-Tool variants to the player’s loadout. These new weapons are made from Sentinel machinery and add more firepower to take out corrupted Sentinels.

The Interceptor update also adds visual upgrades to VR with the new Movable Wrist Projector. Xbox players will love the new visual improvements as No Man’s Sky adds AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 support for the console.

No Man’s Sky is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
