It has been five years since the release of The Last Jedi and Lucasfilm's announcement of a new trilogy for the beloved franchise. The film's director and writer Rian Jonhson hopes to continue his journey in the Star Wars Universe.
Johnson made his Star Wars directorial debut in The Last Jedi. The director recently shared updates about the status of the new trilogy and his involvement in the project.
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Johnson said "I've stayed close to Kathleen [Kennedy] and we get together often and talk about it." Kathleen Kennedy, president at Lucasfilms has been heavily involved in the development of the previous trilogy.
Johnson shared that "it's just at this point a matter of schedule and when it can happen. It would break my heart if I were finished, if I couldn't get back in that sandbox at some point."
Rian Johnson is currently committed to directing the sequel to Netflix's Knives Out. The first movie was very successful and Netflix committed $462 million for two sequels. A new entry into the Star Wars universe Rian Johnson will be part of the next Star Wars trilogy.
