Piranha Games is developing a new single-player MechWarrior title

The untitled MechWarrior game will be officially announced later in the year.

Fans of the BattleTech universe will be happy to hear that Piranha Games is developing a new MechWarrior game. The popular action-oriented counterpart to the more strategic BattleTech is getting a new single player installment in the near future.

Speaking on the podcast, No Guts No Galaxy, Piranha Games president Russ Bullock disclosed that the new title will be a single-player standalone game, saying:

We’re still working on MechWarrior, which has been somewhat surprising to me, that we’ve been able to work on it this long, which is great. Everyone knows we have DLC 4 coming out for MechWarrior 5, and there is another MechWarrior game in development at Piranha. It’s not MechWarrior Online 2, it’s not the successor to MechWarrior Online, it’s not an online PvP [game]. Think of it more in line with MechWarrior 5, but a standalone game, a standalone product. So I guess that’s an exclusive announcement for you but that’s all I’ll say for now.

Bullock made sure to bring up the fact that the game will be officially announced later this year.

It’ll be announced later – don’t know, if I had to guess it may even be until… oh, who knows. Somewhere in 2023. Maybe even as late as the fall, like September or something. So it’ll be a while, you’ll have to wait around to see what that is. But yeah, more in-line with a MechWarrior 5 type of experience, meaning it’ll be a game that comes out on all the platforms, PC and console.

Adding to this, Bullock restated that the upcoming game is "not the next online game" but rather a "single-player co-op type of pathway, kind of building off that whole technology base."

BattleTech is a wargaming and military science fiction franchise launched in 1984.

Since its inception, the MechWarrior game series has been predominantly released on Windows, with the exception of MechWarrior 2 and MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. The latter was originally available through the Epic Games Store. Later, it was made available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

A true old classic franchise, BattleTech and MechWarrior have definitely gotten with the times, with popular and well received titles launching in both sublines in 2018 and 2019 respectively, to great critical acclaim and financial success. One of the original western mech based sci-fi properties is alive and well, and looks to have a bright future ahead of it.

We'll get more information on the next MechWarrior game later this year.
